Stunning beaches, hidden coves, fabulous National Trust properties, desolate moors, great intimate, foodie pubs with roaring fires in the winter and outdoor seating for warm balmy evenings, Devon has the best of both worlds and an abundance of natural beauty and attractions to entice the most well heeled and well travelled. Here are just a few places that we recommend for the discerning traveller.

A designated area of outstanding natural beauty, Kingston is a pretty coastal village with a thriving, 16th century pub. The village is surrounded by working farms and miles of beautiful coastline and estuaries which are havens for birds and wildlife. Wonwell Beach is easily one of Devon’s best Hidden Beaches and is just a 20 minute stroll away from the house. We can recommend a great circular coastal walk starting at the house and ending in the pub!

From idyllic, sheltered beaches to pretty seaside towns, the South Hams have a wealth of great places, activities and experiences for guests to enjoy. The coast offer everything from stunning coastal walks to sailing, surfing and fishing.  Pop down to Bigbury and depending on the tide, take the sea tractor across to Burgh Island and enjoy a drink at the Pilchard Inn. Breathe in the fresh salty air and relax.

Dartmoor has always been valued for its special qualities - its exposed expanses of moorland, stone circles, mires and granite tors to its fast flowing rivers and deep wooded valleys. Dartmoor is a paradise for walkers and holds some of most significant sacred landscapes and ancient forests in England. Dartmoor is a truly special place to visit and less than a 20 minute drive away from Hooppells Torr.

For shopping and a bit of culture,  the towns of Salcombe, Kingsbridge and Totnes  are within a 30 minute drive of Hooppells Torr and will not disappoint. You will find independent bookshops, artisan coffee, organic delis, gorgeous pubs, fancy wine bars and lots of personailty. For some antique spotting, we can of better place than Ashburton.
